- Hello 4-Hers!
Here's what happened at the last 4-H meeting on April 5th:
Our agenda had 3 more horse questions like they have at Panorama. Did you get them right?
We had a visitor: Hannah
Historians: Thanks to Joyce for pics for the Historians.
County Council Rep: Jake, reminded everyone of the new location for the extension office at 119th & Ridgeview.
County Camp: Forms and money are due on April 15th.
Fundraising: The Masonic Lodge serving of dinners is in limbo at this point. More info later. See Joyce.
Dog Project: Brenda reported that the Dog Project was a success. They took in $254 and spent $254 resulting in an ending balance of $0. Lots of fun and learning was enjoyed by all. Ribbons and trophies were handed out at the show and more were handed out at the meeting. Keep your certificates for Fair and for Shows. Great job everyone! Thanks to Brenda & Danielle for organizing it and to Brenda, Emily, Shawna & Michelle for instructing. Sorry if I left anyone out. Let us know.
KSHSC Show: Everyone needs to help with set-up beginning at 7AM. The speaker system, tents, registration, concessions, awards table and awards, and many more jobs will need your help. We'll have 75 classes that day. The show could go as late as 10PM.
Joyce & Al brought copies of the show bill and registration forms to fill out in advance.
Brenda is in charge of concessions and asked who would be interested in helping her out. Let her know if you can.
Al Morrison is in charge of this show. It is our biggest fundraiser show and everyone is needed to make it a success. Club requirements state that all 4-Hers need to help with at least one fundraiser....this is your big chance. Anytime you are available throughout the day, go help at any of the areas and be sure to sign in so we can remember who was there and helping out.
Therapeutic Riding: Joyce asked who all is interested. Let her know.
Driving Clinic: The driving clinic was scheduled for Friday, April 7th. It was a big success. Lots of fun and learning by 4-Hers and their parents. A cookout was held at the Vaughn's afterwards...we even had a chocolate fountain!! Many thanks to the instructors who gave their time: Chris Mensch and Maura Landry.
Halter Clinic: A fabulous job was done by our own president, Alyssa, at the halter clinic that she organized for April 2nd. She had terrific help from Megan, Lauren C., and Kayla. It was very informative and they had a great turnout. There were terrific questions and demonstrations and handouts and a world of information was covered.
Drill Team: If you're interested or have questions see Sandy or Joyce. The first practice is scheduled for May 15th at 6:30. There will be an Arena Clean-up right before it starts.
Panorama Committee: The club voted to have a Panorama Committee and Challis has agreed to head this committee. Thanks Challis. We'll be ready to win next year.
Web Site: The club voted to increase the budget from $25 to $50 for our website that Megan keeps up to date for us. This fee will last 1 year. Thanks Megan.
Operation Open Door: It's scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd. Joyce handed out forms to volunteer a full or half day. If you couldn't do it this spring there will be another one in October on the 14th. Mark your calendars now.
New Business: A kind gift was received by Paul Friedrichs of United Mosquito & Fly Control in the amount of $100 to support our 4-H horse club. If you're shopping for a fly control system, throw your business towards our sponsors. You can reach Paul at 913-558-3814 or www.unitedmosquitowest.com. Thanks, Paul. 4-Hers, be thinking about what we should use the money for.
Record Books: Amy talked about keeping record books for 4-H and our club. You can get one at the extension office for free if it's your first one. She said you could also just keep everything on a cd ($5 at the ext. office) and it's much easier to update from year to year. You need to keep one record for every project you are enrolled in. If you have questions, please ask Amy. Bring your record books to the next meeting and she will go over more on how to fill them out. She talked about the personal page at the meeting.
Thank You: We received a thank you note from the Mississippi 4-H where we sent the coats and hoodies at Xmas time. They were very appreciative.
Arena Clean-ups: 4-Hers, remember that you are required to attend at least one arena clean-up. This is for the health of your horse and everyone elses. There are just a few left. Apr. 30th with an Open Arena following and then on 5/15 right before the drill team practice. That is all. If you cannot make any of the remaining scheduled clean-ups please contact one of the leaders to work out a time.
ID Papers: Horse id papers are due in the extension office on April 28th. That's this Friday!! Be sure to get it done so you can show with us this season. Our first show is in Gardener and is scheduled for May 21st at 9AM.
Our next meeting is Wed, May 3rd at 7:00 PM at the Masonic Lodge in Olathe.
Thanks to the host families this month: Sosa's brought snacks and Vaughn's brought drinks.
Hosts for May: Food is Drake/Smith. Drinks are James.
Thanks,
Your Reporter,
Garrett & his mom
