May 2006 News
  • 4-Hers, Sorry this is so late in the month..it's been busy, as I'm sure yours has been too. Here is what happened at the last meeting and some other stuff that's important too: The club voted in 3 new members: Congratulations to Hannah, Cassidy, and Sydney! Happy Birthday to Megan, Erin, Laurie, Sydney. Our Historian passed around pics of the Driving Clinic. Our Parliamentarian announced that the Fair Books can be printed online at www.jocokansasfair.com. You can also go into the Extension Office and get a hard copy for $4.70. You can pre-enter for Fair also. We'll have our final Arena Cleanup tomorrow night during set-up for the big Circuit Fundraiser Show. We'll start the clean-up around 5:30 pm. Please come out and help with the Arena Cleanup and setting up and cleaning the concession stand and whatever else needs to be done. Those of you that signed up to bring something, bring it in unless it's perishable and then you can bring it Saturday morning. Everyone was suppose to have their donations to Brenda, Michelle or CeCe by Wed. this week. Contact Brenda Smith if you're not sure what you're suppose to bring. Contact Al Morrison if you have any specific questions regarding the show. Contact Janis Hodgdon or Sandy Miller if you have questions about the auction. Contact the leaders, Nancy, Michelle, or Sandy, if you have any other questions. People who volunteered to bring their grills or tents, don't forget those...please. See you at the big show this Saturday. Registration begins at 8am and the show begins at 9am. It's a double-judged show. That means each class is double the normal fee since we have 2 judges but you're getting points from 2 judges at each class. Good luck everyone. The County Camp is still in need of counselors (16 and over), so contact the Extension Office if you can do this or know a 4-Her or adult who can. Don't forget to complete your written and riding Level Testing by the deadline of June 15th. Joyce says that she'll be in contact with Carol VanCamp regarding Therapeutic Riding and will have the dates later. Drill Team is practicing on Monday evenings at 6:30 and I heard they're having lots of fun. Call Sandy with questions. Be sure to continue to check out our website: www.jocohorseclub.org for important information on a regular basis. Thanks to Megan for keeping that updated. Operation Open Door had great success again this Spring. Volunteers worked hard all day or a half day at various homes doing chores that they can't. Earning 4th place in club attendance, Horse Club was represented by the following participants: Adriana and her family, Lauren & Garrett and their parents, Clarissa and her family, Heidi, Paris and her family. Thanks for all of your hard work. The lost timers were discussed, but you've already been updated on that situation. We're looking for instructors for the Jr. District Clinic. (June 19th) If you have any thoughts contact Sandy or Joyce or Nancy. The program was a discussion over the answers to some thought-provoking panorama questions at the top of the agenda. Thanks, Alyssa. 4-H County Camp is June 3-6. Rodeo Bible Camp is June 6-7. If you know someone who may be interested in visiting our club, feel free to forward this email newsletter to them and have them check out our website. Invite them to a horse show. Adults, be sure that your VIP forms are filled out and turned into the Extension Office asap. Questions? Call the Ext. Office at 715-7000. If you're not receiving the county newsletter, "Clover Clips", call Pat at the Ext. Office and let her know. If you haven't filled out a Participation Form yet, let her know that too. If you're a new member and don't have a new member book, contact Cindy Saltzmann. Great work, Cindy!! If you are showing cows, pigs, chickens or rabbits at the county fair you'll need to order t-shirts asap. You do not need these shirts for showing horses. An order form was emailed to everyone a while ago. If you still need one call the Ext. Office and they can put you in touch with Sue Pio. American Royal Youth Horse Show is scheduled for Sept 23 and 24. Go to the website and check it out and what you need to do to participate at www.americanroyal.com. It's also a lot of fun to go watch and support other 4-Hers and learn. Annual trail ride supporting the American Cancer Society is scheduled for June 16-18 and is held near Manhattan. Go to www.cancer.org for more info. Well-known Trainer, Clinton Anderson, is coming to Topeka on June 17-18 and to Rock Springs on Sept 9-10. Go to www.clintonanderson.net to check it out. If the flies are driving you nuts already, check out one of our supporters, United Mosquito & Fly Control at www.unitedmosquitowest.com. Our next meeting is at 7pm in Olathe at the Masonic Lodge. See you then. Nancy & Garrett
