June 2006 News
  • JUNE: Welcome guests: Samantha & Alexis Welcome New Members: Jessica S., Shealynn and Tristan! Congratulations! Happy Birthday to Heidi, Sandy, Pam, Lauren C., Alyssa, and Brian! The treasurer reported that we had a great profit with our May circuit fundraiser show, earning over $4,000. Yeah for us! Thank you Joyce for pics for the historians. Adults, be sure to get your VIP forms turned in if you work with kids. County insurance will cover you if it's turned in by June 12th. Sign up sheets for the fundraiser went around. Be sure your name got on one if you volunteered anywhere during the circuit show (KSHSC) fundraiser. Al Morrison said thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and support. Thanks to the Voelker's for their $500 donation to the club to replace our lost timers. KSHSC also donated money toward replacement costs. A request for help with the June 19th & 20th Jr. District Clinic & Show was heard from Sandy. Rodeo Queen/Princess is for girls 12 and over & up to age 15 for Princess. Applications are found at the extension office and are due June 15th. Level Testing will be offered June 12 at Leavenworth Fairgrounds in Tonganoxie at 4pm or at Erika Tanney's at 6pm on June 11th. Deadline is June 15th for Sr. District and State Fair. Up to age 13 you must have competed Level 1. 14-18 you must have completed Level 1 & 2. Call the extension office to set this up. The club voted to approve a sponsorship for 4 trophies for County Fair (3 lamb and 1 egg/spoon race). This cost is $48. Sandy announced that since Jimmy Curtice will be re-working the PA System the club owns, he would also revamp a piece of luggage to store the system in. He is asking for a hard case of some type, such as a suitcase, that anyone may have to donate to the club. Preferrably one with wheels as the system is very heavy. The club voted to send 2 parents to learn Horse Soccer for our club. The parents will then come back with knowledge and teach the club with a ball and video. The cost was $200. Be sure to pick up a county fairbook and a revision sheet from Michelle. The theme for the County Fair parade this year is "Historical Pursuit-Jo. Co. Edition". Sort of like Trivial Pursuit, past and present. It was suggested we ride in the parade with costumes instead of doing a float, as it is very difficult to get people to work on the float at such a busy time. Sandy Miller volunteered to oversee the costume portion of the group ride. Our speaker, Carol VanCamp, was cancelled. See Challis regarding Stall Decorations for County Fair. Be sure to order your livestock t-shirts by June 10th. This is for sheep, cattle, pig. Sr. District is scheduled for Tuesday, July 11th. Be sure you take your coggins within the last year and a health certificate within the last 30 days. You must receive a blue or purple ribbon to qualify to show at state fair. Bring your checkbook that day and get with Joyce regarding stalling as a group at state fair if you qualify. Drill Team/Open Arena is in Gardner on June 12th and 26th. June 19th & 20th is Jr. District Clinic and show. All ages are invited to the clinic. 11 and under can show in the show. Older 4-Hers are needed to put on the show. See Sandy or Nancy. June 25th is a 4-H horse show starting at 9am. Be sure to help out when you can. July 16th 4-H show starts at 9am at Gardner. Be sure to call for rain/heat/mud info after 6pm on Saturday evening for status of show. Your Reporter, Garrett & Mom
