July 2007 Hoofprints
  • Sorry this has taken a while. Busy, busy, busy. Here's what went on at the last meeting which was held at the arena on the fairgrounds:
  • Happy Birthday to Garrett, Adriana, and Brynn.
  • Lauren C. sent around the directory for everyone to update their info. If you weren't there and have changes, please contact her.
  • Mattie D. stepped up to the plate to complete the recently open position of County Council Representative. She will complete the year and could run next year if she wishes. It is a 2 year term.
  • If you are 7 years old after Jan. 1 you can show non-livestock animals in fair.
  • The gift donations that our club gave toward the foodstand was well-received and appreciated.
  • They have hired someone to be in charge of the foodstands during Fair. Her name is Megan Burro.
  • If you want County Fair t-shirts just to have and wear they are at the Extension Office for $8 each. Supplies are limited. (These are not the same as the livestock t-shirts for $6 that are required.)
  • There are VIP Orientation training books available at the Ext. Office.
  • There are quarterly Leader Round-table Discussions each quarter. Jump in if you want to. The next meeting will be in late Aug.
  • On July 14th, Mr/Miss 4-H speeches will be given.
  • There is a new layout for the green building during Fair this year.
  • There is a new livestock picture backdrop this year created by the Blue River Wranglers.
  • 5 trophy sponsors are needed. Call Pat if you can help.
  • The Council gave money for some banners for the auction buyers to welcome and thank them. The Council also gave $600 for fans for the green building.
  • Pioneer is organizing a dunk tank fundraiser for Greensburg, KS tornado victims. Look for a sign-up sheet for people who will be dunked. This will take place on Friday or Saturday of Fair. They need clubs to give $10 each to get this off the ground. I think we did this???
  • A sign-up sheet went around to work the concession stands. Make sure you contact Sandy to get on it.
  • Clean-up day for our club is Sat., July 28th from 8-10ish am. Bring gloves, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows.
  • Fair entries are due July 15th.
  • If you're in the Fashion Review on Aug. 2nd, contact Sandy.
  • State Fair is Sept. 7th-16th in Hutchinson. You'll need to sign up by Aug 10th. You can buy tickets at the Ext. Office (for kids) and at Dillon's (for adults). Ask them about the housing that's available also.
  • CeCe is having surgery on Monday, July 16th and a sign-up sheet went around to provide meals to her and her family. ****CeCe is doing great and moving around.****
  • The Overnighter Horse Show Combo was a blast! Sat. was a regular show with concessions provided by the Legacy Club, followed by swimming and dinner and fun. Sunday began with some Horse Soccer and was followed by lots of fun classes, clean-up and departure.
  • July 16th Showing off at the American Royal working with inner city kids. Joyce organized this and the kids did great.
  • Drill Team continues to work perfecting their patterns and timing.
  • Dog Show on July 21st in the beef barn. Set-up Friday night at 6:30pm. Dog Club ran agility at the same time in the green building and Brenda and many others made sure things ran smoothly between the clubs.
  • Stalls are free this year, thanks to a fabulous donation. Be sure Challis has all your info if you're stalling this year.
  • The Wingate's are selling their horse. Contact them if you're interested.
  • The Scarecrow Committee is still meeting and working on the project from our club.
  • Several of our members went to Sr. District. They stood and were recognized for all their terrific work at the show. Congrats.
  • The County Fair Horse Show dates are Tuesday, Aug. 7th and 8th.
  • Our last horse show for the season will be on September 9th at the Olathe Trailriders Arena. Everyone come and have a great time. Be sure to pack your cooler with you lunches and drinks as there will be no concession stand.
  • Next meeting is Wed, Aug. 1st at our regular meeting place and at 7pm, regular time. We'll be talking about lots of Fair issues and some other things that have popped up.
  • Thanks to the Shields' for the snacks and the Vaughn's for the drinks. August meeting snacks will be provided by the Sosa's and the drinks by the Shelton's.
  • That's all. Again, sorry this is so late.
    Nancy & Garrett, Reporters
