August 2007 News
Here's what went on last night at our VERY BRIEF August meeting:
We had 2 visitors, Calvin and Simon.
We voted in a new member: Welcome Aleah (I hope I spelled that right?)!
There were no August birthdays.
Tristan announced that she and Grace will be taking pictures during fair, but she needs more from everyone in the club. They will be completing the scrapbook following fair, so get your pictures to her ASAP so they can be in the album.
Our club voted to approve a $10 donation towards the dunk tank fundraiser that will be at fair. This fundraiser will raise funds for the Greensburg, KS tornado victims.
CeCe spoke about the stall decorations and stalling your horses at fair. The theme this year is Patriotic. There will be stall decorating this Sunday at 10am. If you're stalling you're expected to come help decorate. Our club will mostly be on the east side of the barn. The barn manager, Debbie Murray, is asking that horses be stalled in every other stall, unless they need to be next to another horse to keep them calm. Debbie is also asking that all horses be fed by 10am at the latest for the morning feeding and by 10pm at the latest for the evening feeding. The barn will be closed to the public at 10pm and will be locked up at 11pm. There is room for you to have a tack stall for your horse this year. Be aware that anything you leave in your tack stall will need to be locked up or possibly risk being stolen. CeCe also asked everyone to sign a thank you card for work done on the stall boards by an outsider.
Sandy had concession stand sign-up schedules available for pickup. IF you weren't there and don't know your time and place give her a call at 206-5924. Great news.... our club only has to cover 5:30-7:30pm on Sat. night and 6:30-10:30 on Thursday!
Lessie announced that the drill team is meeting again on Thursday evening. She asked members to be there at the fairgrounds by 6:30 for a 7:00pm sharp start time in the arena. The team will be performing at fair during the Family Fun Night on Tuesday evening in the arena. She also mentioned that the team will be performing at the American Royal on Sat., Sept. 22nd. The time will be announced later.
Kelly spoke about some Arabian horses that are being donated. If you go to the website: www.hilltoparabians.com you can view the ones that this nice lady is trying to find homes for. Our club members Kelly, Alyssa, Tate, Tristan and Nancy R went to her place to check things out and they all agree that these horses are indeed QUALITY animals. The donator would prefer that they go to a 4-H home but will settle for a good home. Kelly is going to email the flyer that will be posted at fair to all our horseclub members. Print it out and hang it at your closest tack store and barns that you know. There are 3 horses she's donating the proceeds to us for: a gelding yearling, a 2yr old gelding, and a 3 yr old gelding. The 2 yr old gelding will be stalled at the fair this year with the flyers about it. The flyer you'll receive is about the 2 yr old. Kelly is heading up a silent auction where people will fill out a form and place in a drop box. She'll have a board that will announce the highest bidder throughout each day. The winner will be announced on Saturday evening or Sunday morning. The donator will be bringing the other 2 geldings up to be seen on Tuesday or Wed. They are all halter broke and very mild mannered, according to our team that went out to visit. Her goal is to have all her horses placed by the 18th of Aug. as she is moving to Oregon and can't take them with her. They have excellent breeding. She also has a stallion that she needs to place. She told our team that the first 4-H family to bring her a check for $500 can take the 2 yr old home with them. If you are interested, arrangements can be made for transportation of the horses. Visit the website and check them out. Be sure to forward the website to anyone that you know would provide a good home to any of these arabians.
Nancy V announced that the scarecrow committee has been meeting and the scarecrows are finished with a few exceptions which will need to be done upon turn-in time. If you're interested in helping with the final touches, we'll be meeting in the beef barn at 6pm on Monday evening of fair. The masterpiece will be displayed in the Open building (white bldg) throughout fair. Nancy asked all the committee workers to stand and be recognized: Lauren V, Abbey, Angela, Amy F., Madison F., Lauren C., Challis, CeCe, Sandy, Jessica P.
That's it...short meeting...record time of 40 mins!!!!!
