A big thank you goes out to all the enthusiastic 4-Hers that ran for the positions. You’ll take over your new position at the October 3rd meeting. So, be ready to take charge and make a difference!! If you have questions about your new position, give the 4-Her that holds that position now a call and pick his/her brain.
An even bigger thank you goes out to all those 4-Hers and parents who held positions and volunteered countless hours of their time over this past year. You’ve made a terrific impact on our club and we hope that you can continue to volunteer and join the great fun we’ll be having over the next year.

  • We had 3 visitors at our meeting. Shelby B. is a new member, so be sure to welcome her when you see her.
  • Happy Birthday to Amy F.
  • Julia read a thank you note that we’re sending out to the woman that donated the horses to our club for the silent auction during county fair. We did very well and earned $500 from that. Thanks to Kelli for heading up that opportunity for our club.
  • Jessica read the treasurer’s report and our club did well at the dog show, horse shows and silent auction this summer. Way to go, club!
  • Reporter: Be sure to forward your communications to Abby and her mom, Angela after Oct. 3rd. This includes changes in email addresses and other important info. They’ll be doing the newsletter and writing articles. Anything you need put on the web site should be directed to Shelby V. and her dad, Kevin. They’ll be keeping that up to date.
  • The Historians, Tristen and Grace, will be finalizing the Historian Album by Oct. 1st. If you have anything you want put in there you’ll need to get it to them asap.
  • Clarissa reported on the last County Council meeting: Club Days will no longer conflict with Panorama (thanks to Abby G.)!!!! Panorama will be the 9th & 10th of Feb in ’08. Club Days will be announced later. The dance teams will be broken up differently this year. All categories will be combined and compete against each other with age group being the only difference. Jrs. will be 7-9, Inter. will be 10-13, and Srs. will be 14-18. If you have questions or concerns contact Sarah at the Ext. Office (715-7000). Officer Training will take place on Sept. 29th in Gardner (not sure of exact location). The potluck will be before the training, around 5pm, and the first session will begin at 6pm. They are adding a Q & A session for new 4-H families. This is not just for officers…it’s for anyone in 4-H. You can pick the sessions you go to and it’s extremely helpful for everyone in a new position and everyone new to 4-H. $804 was raised at the dunk tank during fair to go towards Greensburg for the tornado damage and rebuilding their fairgrounds. Old Navy has committed to match up to $1,000. So if anyone would like to add to the $804 to help bring it up to $1,000, please contact the extension office. Record books are due in the extension office by 4:30pm on Oct. 4th. They are also in need of parent volunteers to help judge them. If you can help, call Abby G. at the extension office. If you do not cash your fair premium checks by 90 days, they will be forfeited. If you haven’t picked yours up yet, send a SASE to Darcy Hamilton and he’ll mail it to you. You can get his address by contacting the extension office or fair board.
  • Abby G., our extension agent, attended our meeting and had the following to report: There will be a Project Fair held at the Extension Office on Sept. 25th at 6pm. This will be a gathering spot for all clubs to show off what they do. You can bring projects and every club will have a “Booth”, which consists of a table top display. We can fix it up however we wish. If our Historians have the book done we can put that at our table. This gives other clubs a chance to see what we and others do. This will also be attended by several elementary schools, so bring your best. Please make an effort to go out to the extension office and take something you’re proud of and help make our club look good. If you have questions, call Nancy R. or Sandy C. Projects going to State Fair left on Friday, yesterday, with Sara and Abby. Good luck to everyone heading down this year. The horse show portion will be held on the 14th and 15th. If you are going to be working with our 4-Hers, as an adult or someone 14 or older, you’ll need to fill out a VIP form or a VIP Renewal Form. If you’re new you’ll need to go to an orientation training session. There was one held on Sept. 6th at the Extension Office and will be another one. Our club has a book with a CD ROM for this purpose. There will also be Rondtable Discussions for leaders and any adults to bring up concerns and ideas. Contact Sandy or Nancy R. or Abby with questions. Abby also presented a few awards from County Fair. The high point for our horse show: Sr. was Alyssa, Inter. was Matti D. and Jr was Tate. She also gave out prizes for the Horse Judging Competition. Sr. was Challis, Inter. was Mikaela and Jr was Tristen. Reserve was Tate and Matti. Congrats!
  • Kelli reported on and passed out a handout regarding our upcoming Fall Trail Ride. It will be a sleepover at Hillsdale Lake on Oct. 6th & 7th. The rain dates will be Oct. 20th & 21st. There are some specific requirements so please contact Kelli with questions and review the email that was forwarded with the info.
  • See your latest copy of Clover Clips to find out about a Haunted House that one of the clubs is putting on. Sounds like a lot of fun.
  • Nancy V. announced that the Scarecrow Committee and our club won Grand Reserve Champion in the Open Class at County Fair. The theme was “Proud to be and American, Proud to be a 4-Her”.
  • Challis announced that our club won the Horse Stall Decorations trophy. Thanks to everyone who made that possible and to Challis and CeCe for heading it up.
  • Our final horse show is tomorrow, Sunday, at Olathe Trailriders Arena. It’s out by Heritage Park. If you need directions, contact Sandy or Nancy R. If you have a questions about if rain is a factor, call the leaders also.
